product design
tine tid is a service for the elderly, where tine—the dairy producer—makes and delivers food for the elderly. our assignment was to redesign the packaging to make it easier for the elderly, whilst keeping the food delicate.
working with the elderly we wanted the final product to give associations to their youth, as well as play on nostalgia. we wanted them to get a feeling of accomplishment when the food was heated so that they would get the association of cooking and making the food themselves. we got this idea confirmed when we tested the earlier iterations with some people at a local senior centre, we learned that many of the elderly are displeased with the way they get food served because they're used to being able to make food themselves, but as they grow older it becomes more and more difficult. making them feel more and more helpless.
to give this association we decided to use the shape of a casserole, to play on the feeling of cooking for oneself. we also worked a lot with grip and making it easier to rip the plastic lid off.
making three different versions based on the menu that tine tid offers, we decided to reintroduce the gravy boat, again working with giving the associations to their younger days.
this assignment taught us a lot of cooperation in the conceptual phase. merging several different ideas and viewpoints to a concept we all like, resulting in a product we are really happy with. of course, if we had more time to work on it we would iterate on shape, production and do more user-testing.
